Club members may be interested to know of an appeal by the
National Trust for Scotland for anyone who could help with
restoration of an extensive vintage Basset - Lowke Layout
found in a loft of Haddo - House in Methlick ; Aberdeenshire .
Haddo House was the home of David Gordon ; fourth Marquis of
Aberdeen & Temair . David Gordon died in the 1970,s & I remember him
as a member of the Great North of Scotland Railway Association
in the 60,s showing 1950 ,colour films of trains on the Buchan
Line. His Grandfather was also a railway enthusiast and at one time
planned a branch line from Udny on the Buchan Line to Methlick
serving his estate .The layout runs through two attic rooms and
has an array of clockwork Basset / Lowke Locos at the top of their range.
A photograph is shown in the Aberdeen " Press & Journal " for Friday
27th. January . The Trust wish to contact anyone who could help
with expert restoration to enable running the railway as a visitor
attraction . Contact details are 0844 493 2179 .
